Marengo’s history

Marengo is a village in west-central Saskatchewan, about 45 kilometres west of Kindersley along Highway 7. It incorporated as a village on November 5, 1910, in the Rural Municipality of Milton No. 292.

The village first incorporated under the name Melbourne, probably a preliminary name given by the Canadian Northern Railway. In 1911 the post office was given the name Marengo, after Marengo, Illinois, the hometown of pioneer J. Ray Goodrich. Later that same year the name was changed to Fuller, after a manager of a ranch, because the post office would not allow "Melbourne". After three years, the community changed back to Marengo.

In October 2020, a grain elevator in the village caught fire. Marengo was temporarily evacuated, and no one was injured.
